Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel termed the release of a captured tigress in Achanakmar Tiger Reserve as "a happy coincidence".
The tigress was rescued from the Surajpur Forest Division on April 28. It was treated and on recovery it was released in the Achanakmar Reserve on Saturday.
“With the release of the tigress, the department is hopeful of increasing the number of tigers in Achanakmar. Already, the process is under way to bring two females and one male tigers from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra,” Bahgel tweeted.
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Sudhir Kumar Agrawal, stated that for the first time in Chhattisgarh the tigress was fitted with a radio collar.
A suitable monitoring system has been established to trace its movement for the next one month.
The villagers have been taken into confidence, Agrawal said.
