On the occasion of Chhattisgarh’s traditional farm festival ‘Hareli’, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his Ministers will launch on July 20 the flagship scheme ‘Godhan Nyay Yojana’ which will involve procuring cow dung and turning it into vermi-compost.

The Monday event will be hosted at the ‘Gauthan’ across the state.

Baghel will attend religious rituals to mark 'Hareli' at his official residence at 10.00 am. An hour later, he will take part in events at the Model Gauthan Baihar at Arang block in Raipur district and at Patan, the Chief Minister’s constituency in Durg district.

An official statement said that Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and other public representatives will launch the schemes in different districts.

Under the scheme, cow dung will be procured from farmers and cattle growers for Rs 2 a kg. These will be converted into vermi-compost at the ‘Gauthan’ by women self-help groups. It will generate employment in rural areas and promote organic farming in the state.

Procurement will begin in 2,408 Gauthans in rural areas and 377 in urban areas in the first phase. Then phase-wise procurement will commence in 11,630 village panchayats, the statement said.

Under the programme ‘Suraji Gaon’, the state has been implementing the ‘Narwa, Garwa, Ghurwa au Bari’ (NGGB) (Canal, Cattle, Manure Pit and Kitchen Garden) to         promote water harvesting, protecting cattle, developing organic manure and promoting kitchen gardens in villages.
