Reacting to the statement of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh over the Jhiram Ghati massacre, Chhattisgarh State Congress Committee general secretary and media in-charge Ramesh Varlyani said that Raman Singh had accepted security lapses in the incident before UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
However, the Chief Minister, who is responsible for the murder of 31 people, including Congress leaders in the incident, did not consider it necessary to resign, though he had intelligence information about the naxalites attack.
In a party Press statement issued here on Sunday, Varlyani said that now, when the people of the State are going to teach him a lesson over this incident, he has become senseless and gabbling nonsense. The State Government is responsible for the delay in NIA probe also, as it has not been proper cooperating in it, he added.
He said that the BJP, which has been clamouring about inflation, should do some introspection. Because of hoarding, prices of potato and onion are skyrocketing in the State, but the State Government did not conduct raid of any of the godowns so far.
He said that the Raman Government is responsible for the increasing prices of vegetables, including tomato, as he did not give protection to the vegetable producers. In protest, last year, the farmers filled the vegetables on truck and tractors and gave away tomato, potato and cauliflower free to the public on the roads of Raipur. Even as the Government did not learn the lesson, the farmers have reduced cultivation and the vegetables become costly in the markets. What would be the biggest example of the incapability of the Government that sand, which has been getting at Rs 3,000 per truck, is now being sold at Rs 20,000 per truck. Rate of cement has been increased at will, but the Government has no control over it, he added.
Petrol, diesel costly
Varlyani said that the prices of petroleum products were depend upon the international market. The Congress-ruled States have given relief to the people by reducing VAT on petrol and diesel. As the Raman Government has nothing to do with the people, hence, it takes 4 per cent VAT on aviation petrol, but 25 per cent from the common man filling petrol and diesel in their vehicles, he added.
‘Will give Rs 2,000 support price to farmers’
Varlyani said that the BJP Government has made false promises with the farmers that it would take steps to give Rs 2,100 support price on purchase of paddy, but the Congress had clearly declared that it would purchase paddy on support price at Rs 2,000 per quintal. Whatever support price the Centre decides, whether it is less than Rs 2,000, the Congress Government would give the difference amount, he added.
He said that people disenchanted with the Raman Government, and they have made up their mind for change. The countdown of the Raman Government has started and it is on the way out, he added.
