The dream of India’s development is possible with rise of villages, said Chief Minister Raman Singh while launching ‘Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday’ campaign from Rajnandgaon district on 125th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on Thursday.

The campaign is going to strengthen the sense of social harmony and play a key role in development of villages as well as the country, he said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar and recalled his contribution for the society.

Addressing the gathering, Singh said by framing the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar has ensured equality for people belonging to marginalised section of society and the downtrodden.

Throughout his life, he worked for development of the society. Moreover, Dr Ambedkar played significant role in empowerment of the country and fought against injustice and to protect the interest of people belonging to weaker sections and managed to achieve highest position in the country with hard work, the Chief Minister said.

Aiming to link people belonging to marginalised section of the society with mainstream of development, Dr Ambedkar made a provision of reservation in the constitution, said Singh.

According to him, the provision of reservation has provided series of opportunities to children of SC/ST category in the field of education and children of these sections are now becoming doctors and engineers. After Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Ambedkar was the only person who fought against the evil practice of untouchability in the country, Singh said.
