To mark Janmashtami, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday initiated a drive to establish 'Krishna Kunjs' across Chhattisgarh by planting a Kadamb sapling at Telibandha locality here.
Spread over 1.68 hectares, 383 culturally significant and useful trees were planted. He also prayed to Lord Krishna and extended Janmashtmi greetings to people.
Addressing a gathering, Baghel said plantation of culturally significant trees like banyan, peepal and kadamb besides other useful trees was done on Friday at Krishna Kunjs developed in 162 urban areas across the state.
In a bid to motivate people to plant trees, Krishna Kunjs are being developed, he said. Trees are disappearing due to urbanization, leading to indiscriminate felling of trees, he added.
“Lord Krishna was an expert economist who connected agriculture with cattle farming. We too have encouraged cattle farming in Chhattisgarh. We are setting up Gauthans in villages and cities and purchasing cow dung and urine."
The sites for Krishna Kunj have been selected in 10 urban bodies of Raipur district including Kurra, Kharora, Birgaon, Attari, Telibandha, Arang, Chandkhuri, Kurud Samoda, and Urla.
On Friday, tree plantation was done in 162 selected sites including seven in Koriya district and four in Dantewada district.
