CM hails Indira, says due to her BJP fears Gandhi family

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid fulsome tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary on Thursday, describing how she tackled internal and external challenges and said this is why the BJP still fears the Gandhi family.

After garlanding her portrait at his office-cum-residence, Baghel said that Indiraji dedicated her life for the uplift of the poor and weaker sections and sacrificed her life to protect the unity and integrity of the country, an official communication said.

He said Gandhi gave a new direction to the country with her vision and determination. By leading the country efficiently under challenging circumstances, she gave India a prestigious position at the international-level.

Addressing a party function at the Congress state headquarters here, the Chief Minister said she was a leader who worked against America by sending peacekeepers to Bangladesh. It was during her period that a maximum 90,000 soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army.

Baghel said people now seek a certificate of nationalism but the Congress leadership gave up their lives for the unity and integrity of the country.

It was during Indira Gandhi's tenure that the Green Revolution, Bank nationalization and the birth of Bangladesh took place. That is why the ruling party at the centre fears the Gandhi family still.

Now the situation is that the country is overflowing with agricultural produce but there is no place to stock it, he said. As for nationalised banks, they are moving towards bankruptcy.
