In protest of 50 per cent hike in the property tax, Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi) has appealed the residents of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) not to pay the tax.
The party has also decided to register the protest on road and will kick-start a series of protests from Jaistambh Chowk in the city on Friday.
Former Chief Minister and Convener of CJC(J) Ajit Jogi in a press statement said that basic amenities like road, electricity and water are not in the reach of most city residents.
The RMC has already been charging water tax, consolidated tax and sub taxes; however despite these taxes, additional weight of 50 per cent property tax has been imposed on citizens, he said. “This hike in tax is going to hit lower, middle, and higher section of the society and under these circumstances CJC(J) cannot remain silent,” Jogi said while adding that in the first round of protest in form of a signature campaign will be carried out in all wards of the RMC.
Jogi will start the signature campaign from Jaistambh Chowk on September 2 until RMC reconsiders the move and rolls back the tax, he said.
