The Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi) has called for State-wide bandh on Thursday in protest of the death of Yogesh Sahu, the disabled youth who on July 21 had set himself afire in front of Chief Minister Raman Singh’s official residence and died in the wee hours of Wednesday.
However, ‘Chhattisgarh Pradesh Sahu Sangh’ has not supported the bandh and has asked political parties not to ‘play politics’ over the incident.
Former Chief Minister and Chief of CJC (J) Ajit Jogi while addressing a press conference at his residence here informed that his party has called for Chhattisgarh bandh on July 28.
“We have demanded compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family members of the victims apart from other requisite help,” Jogi said while adding that the chowk near the victim’s house should also be named after Yogesh Sahu.
To a query that trade bodies are extending their support to the bandh or not, he said that he has sought the support of Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) on the issue and would also appeal the educational institutions to remain shut as the victim symbolised the youth of the State. ‘Only the essential services will be exempt from the Bandh on July 28’, he added.
later on, in a hurriedly called press conference in the evening hour office bearers of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Sahu Sangh said that they were going to meet Chief Minister Raman Singh demanding help for the family members of the victim.
“A condolence meeting will be also held at Jaistambh Chowk for paying homage to Sahu,” they said. The Sahu Samaj in the statement said that some political parties in a bid to take political mileage have called for ‘Chhattisgarh Bandh’.
“Chhattisgarh Sahu Samaj is capable of taking up its own fight and believes in social harmony and law and order. We appeal not to play politics but help the bereaved family,” they office-bearers said.
President of Chhattisgarh Sahu Sangh Vipin Sahu along with other office bearers were present in the press conference.
Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) has decided to support the bandh till 2 pm.
