City to welcome New Year sans chill

Even on the last day of the year, the city is expected to remain four to five degrees hotter than the normal temperature, said the Met department on Monday.

The Met department said the temperature in the city is not likely to witness sharp dip in the temperature during the coming few weeks. The normal minimum temperature for Raipur in December is around 11 degrees Celsius.

However, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius on Monday. “There will be no or slight change in city’s temperature in the coming days,” said JK Ingle, Assistant Weather scientist.

Even after heavy snowfall in the north, the city is far from experiencing the December chill. The day temperature is only 1.5 degrees Celcius away from 30 degrees mark. Citing the reason, Ingle said the cold waves from north are not coming to the city directly. The cold is being taken to the north-east because of the wind.

Elsewhere in the State, Ambikapur district has recorded the lowest temperature in the state of 9.9 degrees Celsius and Jagdalpur stands second with 10.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Ambikapur was recorded at 22.8 degrees Celsius while mercury in Jagdalpur soared up to 27.5 degrees Celcius Jagdalpur.

The neighbouring Durg district is comparatively hotter with a maximum temperature of 29.6 degree Celsius and a minimum of 14.4 degrees Celsius. Bilaspur recorded a maximum of 28.7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 13.7 degrees Celsius on Monday.
