To address problem of malnourished children
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with UNICEF will work for improving maternal health and overcoming the problem of malnutrition in children up to six years of age in the State.
The CII will work according to the advice of UNICEF and adopt Anganwadi centres for the purpose, said Chairman, CII Eastern Region, Viresh Oberoi.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Oberoi said that nutrition is very important for pregnant women and children up to six years of age. "We have taken initiative in this regard and signed MoU with UNICEF which will guide us in meeting the objective. The work will be started in this direction within three-four weeks.”
He said that the Indian economy has under performed in the last few years as growth has stalled, investments have stagnated and inflation has remained high. Both consumption and investments have moderated. Slowing growth has adversely impacted employment creation.
We need to accelerate economic growth on an urgent basis and also ensure job creation. India’s demographic dividend is a historic opportunity for development. But without the creation in job opportunities on a large scale, India’s demographic dividend could turn into a social disaster, inferred Oberoi.
He appreciated the reformative steps taken by the Narendra Modi government and gave suggestions on behalf of CII.
“To boost employment creation, we must focus on accelerating the growth process and therefore CII Eastern Region has adopted the national theme “Accelerating Growth, Creating Employment” as its theme for the year 2014 – 15,” said Oberoi.
The focus areas include education system, skill development, economic growth, manufacturing sector growth, investments, ease of doing business, export competitiveness, legal & regulatory architecture, labour law reforms and entrepreneurship.
For Chhattisgarh, Oberoi said that it has already excelled in the field of steel and power. The State has good scope in down-stream industry like automobile, he said.
The members gave presentations on CII Finance Facilitation Centre launched by Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra in New Delhi earlier this year. They also highlighted the features of ‘mycii.in’, an online Business Resource Center of CII for the members.
He informed that a delegation of CII will go to Myanmar to explore investment potential.
