The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chhattisgarh Chapter in association with Indian Green Building Council  organized a Session on ‘Sustainable built environment in Chhattisgarh : Focussing on Affordable Housing & Green Buildings’ in the city on Thursday.

In his address, CII Chhattisgarh Chairman  Ramesh Agrawal said that Chhattisgarh has about 20 green-rated buildings as of today which is less than 1% of India’s green building footprint.

"There is a huge opportunity for us to make a beginning”, Agrawal said.

He said that 70% of India still remains to be built.General impression is that affordable houses are cheap. But if we can also ensure that a Green Home will have Rs 100 – 500 less electricity bill per month, why will a price-sensitive buyer not purchase such an unit, he said.

Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi, Commissioner, Chhattisgarh Housing Board (CGHB) in his address said that CGHB has incorporated many changes in the policies to introduce Green Building concept.

He further added that Housing sector is the second most important sector after agriculture which is contributing to the Nations' GDP.
