In what could be seen as a reaction to the Tuesday’s encounter at Bijapur, Maoist insurgents targeted a helicopter of Central Reserve Police Force engaged in anti-insurgency operation in Bijapur district on Wednesday. However, the copter escaped safely with few scratches on its body and glass, State Director General of Police (DGP) Ramniwas said.
“No one was hurt in the action,” the DGP said, but refused to give any further information due to the operational safety point of view. However, sources in the police department said that the copter had taken off from Pamed while the Maoist hiding in densely forested area opened fire on it.
An Indian Air Force chopper was also shot at in January this year in insurgency-hit Sukma district while it was airlifting some injured jawans.
