The State Government's Chhattisgarh Infotech & Biotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) is in the process of setting up a secured Wi-Fi connectivity across the State under its ambitious ‘Wi-fi City’ project.
The project’s key objective is to provide the best of class Internet service to the citizens of the State by equipping the public, educational and official places across the State by Wi-Fi Services, officials stated.
The Wi-Fi connectivity under Wi-Fi City project will enable the citizens of the State to use smart phones, tablets, notebooks, laptops and other mobile devices to connect to internet seamlessly, this facility will be extended to various public, cultural, social, educational and official places in a form of hotspots across the State later this year, officials stated.
CHiPS has already provided best in class Hi-Speed Internet network to the employees as well as visitors at major government buildings mainly Mahanadi Bhawan and Indravati Bhawan in Naya Raipur. Now all authorized persons can access Hi-Speed Internet network using their personal gadgets enabling them to get connected with external world.
In line with the Centre’s Digital India concept, the employees of both Indravati and Mantralaya Buildings can perform their routine official tasks at anytime from anywhere within the Wi-Fi Network.
The wireless nature of such networks allows users to access network resources from nearly any convenient location within their primary networking environment (a home or office).
With the emergence of public wireless networks, users can access the internet even outside their normal work environment. Most chain coffee shops, for example, offer their customers a wireless connection to the internet at little or no cost.
Using wireless technology rather than having a hard wired network can be much more cost-effective. The larger the network, both in terms of area and users, the more expensive a hard wired network will be to install. It’s not just the amount of cabling, but the actual cost of the labour to install the raceways, and chase the cabling all through the premises; through walls, up and down different floors etc, officials stated.
