Chhattisgarh's women are Annapurnas, says Raman

Published on:

Chief Minister Raman Singh has personified Chhattisgarh’s women as veritable ‘Annapurnas’ (those who feed the entire family).

Elaborating further at a public meeting he was addressing at Saraipali Tehsil of Mahasamind district last night Singh said : ‘Our mothers and sisters are the last to take their meal after feeding the entire family. Somtimes, if there is no food left, they console themselves with having water before going to sleep’.

They (women) have the highest concern for affairs of the kitchen. This is the prime reason behind the State Government introducing the provision of issuing the new ration cards under the Food Security law in the name of an adult woman member of the family.

The Chief Minister had stated this even in his other public meetings held yesterday during the noon hours at Bilaigarh Tehsil headquarters in Baloda Bazar- Bhatapara district and during the evening hours at the Kasdol Tehsil headquarters.

Singh said that Chhattisgarh is the frontline State to have formed the country’s first Food Security law to relieve millions of needy and poor families from the worry of food while guaranteeing ‘Right to Food’ for an estimated 42 lakh families of the State.

He said that even before the Food Security law was formed, an estimated 32 lakh families were receiving rice at Rs one and two per kg with total monthly ration allocation of 35 kgs alongwith two kgs of free salt.

With the introduction of the Food Security law, an estimated additional 10 lakh new families would be linked with the new ration cards issued in the name of the adult woman member of the family, Singh said.

In the notified areas, every family would be offered 2 kgs of ‘Chana’ (gram) for Rs 5 and in non notified areas the beneficiaries would receive 2 kgs of ‘Dal’ (pulses) at a price of Rs 10, he added.various schemes.

Old lady’s generosity pleases Raman Singh

An aged woman Friday gave her entire savings to Chief Minister Raman Singh so that he could be able to take more old aged people on pilgrimage. She donated Rs1 lakh, 11 thousand and 11 to the state government.

Notably, CM Raman Singh was addressing a press conference at Saraipali in connection of his ongoing Vikas Yatra Friday morning. As soon as the press conference ended the he was taken aback to know that an old aged lady was willing to donate her lifelong savings.

Son of the old lady Anand sahu told Raman that his mother Devki Devi was willing to go on pilgrimage and had saved some money for the same purpose but due to business he was not able to fulfil her desire till now. When the old lady came to know that during the Vikas Yatra the CM was coming the Saraipali, she gave her savings to her son and told him to donate the amount to the Chief Minister. Since the State Government is taking a number of old and infirm persons on to pilgrimage, with this money also many persons could be able to earn the virtues of pilgrimage.

Himself being on a mission to provide benefits of different welfare schemes to people, the Chief Minister was taken aback by the generosity of the old lady.
