A training workshop of the Culture Department in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday discussed in detail the standardization of the official language Chhattisgarhi.
The programme was held at an auditorium in Raipur.
Linguists across the country assembled to digitize the vocabulary of literature and grammar in Chhattisgarhi.
Throwing light on the standardization, experts said it is a process by which conventional forms of a language are established and maintained.
Standardization is a natural development of a language in a speech community or as an effort by members of a community to impose one dialect or variety as a standard, said Dr Shail Sharma, Head of the Department, Language and Linguistic Studies, Pt Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur.
Typically, standardization processes include efforts to stabilize the spelling of the dialect, to codify usages and particular (denotative) meanings through formal grammars and dictionaries, and to encourage public acceptance of the codifications as intrinsically correct, she said.
Information was provided about Chhattisgarhi dialect to a two-member delegation of linguists from Mysore in Karnataka.
The Rajbhasha Ayog in Chhattisgarh is making stringent efforts to place Chhattisgarhi in Schedule 8 and getting the status of language for it. A high-level committee has been formed to increase its use in official work of the state government.
