Chhattisgarh’s several northern areas too felt mild tremors on Saturday when a high magnitude earthquake ravaged Nepal and rocked northern India.

But no loss of life or property was reported from anywhere in Chhattisgarh, officials said.

The tremors were felt in large parts of the State including State capital Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Koriya Jashpur and Surguja districts. And people came out from their office buildings and houses in panic.

Chief Minister Raman Singh, who was in New Delhi, telephoned Chief Secretary Vivek Dhand soon after the report surfaced. The CM collected first-hand reports and asked Dhand to collect detailed reports from Collectors.

Revenue and Calamity Management Department Secretary KR Pisda, who held discussions with Collectors of the districts that felt tremors, said no casualty was reported from the State.

He further said Collectors have been instructed to ensure all sorts of precautionary measures in large irrigation water reservoirs, tall buildings, thermal power and hydroelectricity plants, other major industries and underground coal mines in their respective districts.
