Chhattisgarh demands Intl flights, cargo hub

Chhattisgarh Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Umesh Patel on Tuesday reiterated the demand for international flights and a cargo hub in Raipur.

Addressing a meeting presided over by Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in New Delhi, Patel said the infrastructure of Raipur Airport, its runway, the terminal building and air traffic control facilities were fully suitable for international operations.

He asserted that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had requested the Centre to allow international flights and develop a cargo hub in Raipur.

Patel said there was an urgent need to develop a cargo hub. He also stressed the need to develop night landing facility at Bilaspur airport.

Along with this, he said that due to low            visibility during bad weather, passengers face inconvenience as flights are canceled or diverted.

Therefore, the PBN (Performance Based Navigation) approach system should be set up soon for smooth operation of flights at Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur airports. The Union Minister promised positive action on all the demands.
