A total of 42 mobile towers will come up in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, including in areas that are known as Maoist hubs.
Four new towers were installed in Sukma district in June, including three in "highly sensitive areas", an official euphemism to mean areas of Naxalite stronghold.
This has been done to bridge the digital divide in tribal and Naxalite affected districts under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), an official communication said on Monday.
The mobile towers have come up at Minpa and Elmagunda in Konta block, Kumakoleng in Chindgarh block and Geedmanala in Sukma block.
Under the first phase, 42 mobile towers will be put up in the district.
The villagers are naturally enthused by the connectivity. They said that earlier they had to climb mountains or trees to talk to their near and dear ones or to call an ambulance.
Now, communication has become an easy task.
Under the USOF project of the Department of Telecommunications, a total of 971 towers will be installed in 14 Naxalite-affected districts of Chhattisgarh at a cost of Rs 848 crore.
