Former Union Minister Charandas Mahant’s 10-day long ‘Hasdeo Janyatra’ commenced on Wednesday from origin of the Hasdeo River Mendra in Baharatpur-Sonhat assembly segment of the Koriya district.
Chhattisgarh In- charge of All India Congress Committee, Pl Punia and leader of Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, TS Singhdeo were present on this occasion.
Addressing the gathering at Mendra while commencing the Yatra, Punia said the ruling BJP Government never displayed concern for people residing along life line river of Koriya, Korba and Janjgir Champa districts.
The river had contributed to the state by providing irrigation facility and through generation of power but the people residing in the villages at the banks were overlooked by the government, he said.
Charandas Mahant said it was unfortunate that the ruling BJP government never paid attention to the plight of farmers of the region.
Still the far-flung areas are facing dearth of irrigation water and uninterrupted power supply, he said.
