CGPCC chief questions veracity of Antagarh 'poll fixing' probe report

Published on:

Questioning the authenticity of probe report handed over by Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary to the Election Commission of India (ECI) over alleged Antagarh ‘poll fixing’ case, the Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) Chief Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday demanded either a Supreme Court monitored inquiry or a CBI probe in the case.

Baghel was addressing a press conference here at party’s State headquarters Congress Bhawan on Sunday.

He said that Chief Secretary should tell who was the Investigating Officer in the Antagarh bypoll fixing case and what kind of investigation was undertaken or who were the persons questioned.

According to the CGPCC Chief, both him and leader of Opposition TS Singhdeo had made written complaint to the ECI about Antagarh by-poll. “Why were the prime complainants not questioned,” he said.

After ECI had ordered probe into the Antagarh by-polls case, on the behalf of Congress party we had extended thanks to the ECI but had also said that since the Chief Secretary reports to the Chief Minister, the probe cannot be fair.
