Chhattisgarh’s senior Minister Ajay Chandrakar landed in a fresh controversy in the run up to the general election, as a special court on Wednesday ordered to register an FIR against him in a disproportionate assets case.
A special judge, MD Jagdalla, ordered Superintendent of Police, Anti -Corruption Bureau (ACB), here to register an FIR against the Minister for amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income. Chandrakar holds several key portfolios such as panchayat, rural development and tourism in the Raman Singh-led BJP Government.
The court issued the order for FIR in response to RTI activist Krishna Kumar Sahu, resident of Chandna in Rajim who had filed a petition that the Minister had allegedly provided false details of his assets to the District Election Officer while filing the nomination paper for Kurud Assembly seat. Chandrakar had contested the seat as the BJP nominee in November and won convincingly.
The judge in his order had stated that the court on December 18, 2013 had sent the SP, ACB to investigate the matter. Moreover, responding to a notice by SP, ACB, Sahu had presented the oral and written information on the substance of the matter along with the documents on February 28, 2014. Meanwhile, Congress has sought immediate resignation of Chandrakar and urged the Chief Minister Raman Singh to sack him from the cabinet if he fails to resign. Chandrakar was not available to make comment on the development.
