It’s no miracle that, Mohit (16) and Abhay(11), both patients of cerebral palsy are now being able to walk without any support.

It is, in fact, a thoughtful gesture of the Chhattisgarh government which through its Social Welfare Department in 2009  established the “Cerebral Palsy Gate lab’ which had successfully treated more than 500 patients with a host of  problems related to nerve, bones, muscles and joints so far.

The Gate lab provides free treatment for other ailments as well such as cramps suffered by patients after a fracture, nerve problems, back and neck pain besides polio and joint pain. In contrast, the private hospitals and physiotherapy centres charge somewhere between Rs 100 to Rs 250 for similar treatment offered to the patients, an official press release stated here on Friday. The lab had also currently been treating a total of  20 childre from bone deformity and multiple disability homes located at Mana. The facility had been receiving patients from all over the State.

In-charge of Gate lab, Dr Sharad Tiwari said that the facility had also been treating gaps in the joint through the Traction Machine, Heat Treatment through Diathermy, Ultrasound for muscle injuries besides a host of other equipments used for treatment of a large number of ailments related to nerve, joints and muscles.
