The activities such as the census operation and conduct of election are country’s biggest administrative work, Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt said here on Wednesday.
The country earns name and fame not only within but also abroad for conducting such work successfully with efficiency and faithfully, he said while addressing a gathering of officials.
The Governor was speaking at the ceremony specially organized at the Durbar hall of the Raj Bhaban here to felicitate officials for their contribution in the 2011 census operation. The Governor awarded the hem with silver and bronze medals.
He said every year the census operation India conducts in every ten years is massive exercise and it provides a fascinating source of data. The data not only provide various insights, we also come to know various new things whenever we analyse it, he said.
Such data not only benefit the scholars, intellectual and researchers, but also helps the policy makers, bureaucrats and many others in policy planning. The Indian Census has been a fascinating source of data, he said. While there was a need for better use of such data at national level, data of districts and blocks should also be analysed in a better way, he said.
Citing how the census data was useful, he said the population growth in Kabirdham was 40.7 per cent, while in Bijapur such growth was only 8.7 percent. There is a need to examine why there were so much differences, he pointed out.
Similarly the population of women in Chhattisgarh was 989 per thousand males in 2001 census. According to latest census conduct in 2011, the population of women has increased to 991, which is a good thing, he said.
The eminent officials at the programme include additional chief secretary NK Oswal and director census operation Renu Pilai. Oswal in his address said the census work is like a Maha Yangyan and is an exemplary work for other countries.
Census operation director renu Pilai said there has been a tradition to honour the officials who play major role in the census operation and the ceremony was a part of that programme.
