The Police administration has installed closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at various squares of the city to deal with criminals. These cameras will keep tabs on the passerby round-the-clock and keep an eye on the violators of traffic rules.
The new initiative was launched on Sunday by installing four CCTV cameras of Analak system at Nehru Chowk. Three CCTV cameras each will be installed at Baroda Chowk and Ambedkar Chowk and two near the Tumgaon Chowk Railway crossing. The video footage of the cameras could be seen live at the police control room.
ASP Rajesh Kukreja said that the main objective of installing the CCTV cameras was to keep a tab on suspicious persons and the violators of traffic rules. Incidents happen at these squares. CCTV cameras would be helpful in identifying the accused involved in the accidents. Through the four cameras being installed at the Nehru Chowk, an eye could be kept on people coming from the four sides. These cameras have been installed on the guidelines of SP Deepak Jha. After viewing video footage at the Control Room, police personnel, patrolling party and traffic personnel concerned would be informed. On getting good results from these places, cameras will be installed at other public places of the city.
