CBI probe demanded in tribal women rape case

The Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party on Thursday demanded CBI probe into alleged rape incidents reported earlier in insurgency riddled Bastar region.

leader Congress legislature Party (ClP) TS Singhdeo while addressing a press conference demanded a Supreme Court monitored probe into the rape incidents.

He alleged that few jawans of security forces had gang-raped several women in Bijapur district. “The State Government is trying to suppress the matter and journalists, officers or people from Non-Government organizations whosoever speaks against them are being forced to leave Bastar,” Singhdeo told reporters.

He informed that a team of National Scheduled Caste Commission members had also confirmed that women were subjected to sexual abuse in Bijapur district of Bastar region. It confirms the allegation raised by the Congress party, he said.

Expressing lack of confidence over CID probe, he said that Meena Khalkho case was also investigated by CID, but it was the Judicial Commission report which concluded that she (Meena) was raped and killed from police bullet.

Chhattisgarh Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel who was also present during the press conference also supported Singhdeo’s demand and said that court monitored CBI probe should happen in place of CID investigation. Singhdeo said that CM should tell whether he had received prior intelligence inputs or not that the Congress Parivartan Yatra could be targetted by Maoists. “Despite being aware about the possibility of Naxal attack, sufficient security arrangements were not made for Congress party’s convoy which ultimately led to the blood bath,” he charged.
