Cattle smuggling issue raised in State Assembly

Over the issue of alleged large-scale smuggling of cattle from the rural areas of Ramanujganj-Vadrafnagar of Balrampur district, Home Minister Ramsevak Paikra said in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Tuesday that the State Government is committed towards stopping the menace.

So far, 25 cases have been registered against the offenders, he informed in a reply to Congress member Brihaspat Singh during the call attention motion in the House.

The Congress member had alleged that cattle smugglers have been taking hundreds of cows to slaughter houses every week from Balanki, Basantpur, Sanawal, Ramchandrapur, Ramanujganj and Trikunda areas. On being opposed by the villagers, notorious cattle smugglers had allegedly murdered Kailash Kushwaha of Madhna village. Among them, many allegedly have patronage of police officers and politicians, he stated.

Terming the allegation of offenders getting any police or political patronage as wrong, Paikra said that on getting information about smugglers taking cattle to slaughter houses or selling them in other states, police take immediate action. So far, several persons have been arrested.

The Home Minister said that the Agricultural Cattle Preservation Rules had been implemented in the State. Immediate action is being taken on getting information about anyone taking cattle to slaughter houses, he added.
