Canal cleaning work has been started at Ward No. 5 in Sanjay Colony of the district headquarters.Residents of the area have expressed happiness over the cleaning of the canal, which had been filled with soil and filth for a long time, with the efforts of the Ward’s Corporator.
It has been said that land mafia had tried in a planned manner to occupy the canal area by levelling it, but the people of the area thwarted his nefarious design. Every year, in summer, hand pumps and wells of the area go dry. Because of dumping of wastes and filth in the canal, flow of water in it has stopped.
This canal is a water source of the Ramsagar lake. As the canal was filled with soil and waste, water is not reaching the lake.
Due to shortage of fresh water, the water in the Ramsagar lake is contaminated. Residents of ward number 11, 12, 13 and 14 are dependent on the water from the lake for their daily use. Most of the areas around the lake are under the illegal occupation of encroachers.
Vice-president of the Municipality, Gambhir Singh Thakur, Corporator Kanhaiyalal Sen, Sandeep Gupta, Tarni Chandrakar, Rupesh Thakur, Rohit Sahu, Suresh Sahu and employees have made efforts for the cleaning of the canal.
