nThe Chhattisgarh chapter of The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday asked Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to clarify if currency notes carry infectious diseases including Covid-19.
CAIT sent a communication to this effect to the Union Minister, drawing his attention to news reports on the subject and asking if Covid can travel through currency notes which exchange many hands.
CAIT national Vice President Amar Parwani and state Working Presidents Magelal Maloo and Vikram Singh Deo said in a joint statement that despite precautions, the pandemic is spiraling.
If the currency notes can carry infectious diseases, then what are the preventive and safety measures, they wanted to know.
They cited a study by King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, in 2015 and 2016 on banknotes and coins and said as the Covid virus is transmitted through droplets, the currency notes may pose a threat.
