The Medical Education Department which is desperately looking for faculty for the medical colleges will go to other States in search of doctors.
The Rajnandgaon Medical College will be the first one to take the initiative by organising a campus interview in Nagpur. The Medical Council of India (MCI) in July this year had granted conditional permission to medical colleges of the State for running courses for the session 2014-15 and given time to meet the norms including the required faculty. Since then the Medical Education Department has been looking for senior doctors.
The Department has conducted walk-in interviews and offering high salary package to attract the doctors. However, the Department has not been able to overcome the problem of faculty shortage.“We need faculty for medical colleges and therefore taking all possible steps. The Dean of Rajnandgaon Medical College has been asked to go to Nagpur to hold campus interviews to rope in senior doctors,” Director, Medical Education , Pratap Singh told The Pioneer.
Since Rajnandgaon is en-route to Nagpur, we hope that the doctors from Nagpur will definitely prefer on the package offered by the Chhattisgarh Government, he said.Singh acknowledged that the medical colleges are facing shortage of faculty He said that the extra efforts are being put in by the Deans of medical colleges and some of them are getting good results.
Singh said that the Department is not getting doctors under ST category and due to reservation rules, the positions are lying vacant for years. “Since the department can appoint only local ST candidate we cannot even get other state candidates in this category and the seat remains vacant.”He said that the Government should make changes to permit appointment of open category candidates on these reserved seats on contract basis. The contractual faculty can be adjusted if the reserved category candidates come up for the position, suggested Singh.
