About 1.18 crore voters will decide the fate of 150 candidates for the seven lok Sabha seats in the third and final phase of polling in Chhattisgarh on Thursday. The campaigning will end on Tuesday evening. The polling constituencies are Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba, Durg, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, and Surguja.
The ruling BJP won six of these seats in 2009 polls while the Congress won just one seat in Korba. The main contest, however, is between the BJP and the Congress. While the BJP is desperately trying to retain the seats it had won in the last election, the Congress is making all efforts to improve its tally.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raman Singh has been conducting roadshows and addressing rallies to woo the voters while the Congress has roped in its heavyweights to improve its performance.
Out of the 1.18 crore voters, the number of males in the seven lok Sabha constituencies are 60,33,000 while the number of female voters are 57,72,000. As per the Election Commission data, 99 per cent of the electorates have voter-identity cards. The Commission has launched a series of awareness campaigns among the people to ensure high voters' turnout.
