Cakes add to the Christmas flavour

From huge variety of flavours to impeccable icing, the cake shops in the city served a platter full of happiness to their customers this Christmas.

Cakes ranging from Rs 50 to Rs 30,000 were sold in the city which came in all kinds of flavours from the traditional favourite chocolate to new options like tropicana. “Christmas is an occasion on which we have to work harder on the presentation of the cakes. Children want their cakes to be designed presentable and bring photographs of cakes for reference,” said Anil Manchandani, owner of a noted bakery shop near Katora Talab.

Demand for plum cakes and rum cakes never dip around Christmas as people prefer these flavours above all other while sending festival greetings to their loved ones. “My team of 16 bakers have been working non-stop from two nights in order to meet the demand and specifications of our customers,” said Shailendra Saudani who is in the baking business for over 13 years now.

Cakes with Santa Claus, Christmas tree, reindeer horns, gift boxes and snowman on the top were the popular choices of customers for their Christmas cakes. “Though my mother bakes a rum cake every year on Christmas, I like to buy a few from bakeries too so that we always have enough to offer our guests,” said 14-year-old Pramil lal, who bought two chocolate flavoured cakes decorated with Santa Claus and Christmas tree.

“I have bought a pineapple flavoured cake. I will gift it to my best friend when I will visit her in the evening,” said 18-year-old Mary lakra on Wednesday. Talking about the rush, a bakery shop owner Vaibhav Varu said this time of the year was a celebration spree for people.  “Everyone wants to relax with a slice of cake and look at the glittering pole star on their balconies.”
