A jawan of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) was killed while two others were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Maoists went off in the insurgency-hit Sukma district on Friday morning.  Notably, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is slated to visit Sukma district in Bastar during his Chhattisgarh visit on Saturday. The incident occurred under Kistaram police station limits near an under construction culvert when police personnel were conducting a routine security check exercise, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sukma, D Shrawan informed.

While the police personnel were carrying out security check, the bomb went off leaving the three personnel injured. Following the explosion, Naxals opened fire on the team and after a short gun battle, they ran into dense jungle, the SP said.  “Constable Suman Tirki, of 3rd battalion CAF succumbed to grievous injuries during treatment,” he said. The other injured- Suleman Khakha and Anand Minj constables of the same battalion, were shifted to Raipur through helicopter for treatment, Shrawan said.

Meanwhile, a combing operation has been launched in the region to nab the rebels. Notably, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will arrive in Raipur and will later visit Sukma to inaugurate a newly-built fortified police station at Dornapal in the district.
