The State Cabinet on Thursday late evening slashed current power tariff to half for electricity consumption up to 400 units that will benefit about 21 lakh consumers.
The Cabinet also decided to waive off short-term loans taken by farmers. The loan waiver was one of the major electoral planks of the Congress in run up to the Assembly elections.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, also decided to form a ‘Vikas Parishad’ for looking after the developmental works of scheduled regions in plains of Chhattisgarh (Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur), state Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey informed reporters.
“The Cabinet has decided to slash current power tariff to half, for electricity consumption up to 400 units,” Choubey said, adding that it will benefit more than 21 lakh people in the State.
Likewise, the cabinet also ratified chief minister’s earlier announcement of allowing Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) to oversee sand mining operations, which were earlier carried out by Panchayats.
The Cabinet has also decided to end the rule of Chhattisgarh land revenue code which permitted acquisition of tribal land on mutual-agreement basis, Choubey stated.
In another major decision, the cabinet decided to permit regularisation of land under Rajiv Awas Yojana.
