A Cabinet sub-committee formed to look over paddy procurement wants show cause notice to be given to six District Collectors in Chhattisgarh for not making proper arrangements to secure paddy which got wet due to untimely rains.

The meeting of the panel was held at the official residence of its Chairman and Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat.

Though the Meteorological Department had predicted rains and the government had called for covering the paddy, the Collectors had not taken adequate steps, the committee found.

They said officials also not did do physical verification of the produce after the rains.

It was found that a total 38,000 tonnes of paddy got wet due to the rains which would however be sent for milling after it gets dried, said the committee.

The Collectors in the firing line are those of Bemetara, Kawardha, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Mahasamund and Raipur.

Member Ministers Mohammad Akbar, Premsai Singh, Ravindra Choubey and Umesh Patel attended the meeting.
