C'garh sets up committee to probe IPS officer's suicide

Published on:

The Chhattisgarh government on Friday formed a five-member committee to probe the suicide of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and then Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bilaspur in 2012.

The committee is headed by Director General (Jail) Sanjay Pillai while Bilaspur (Range) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dipanshu Kabra, Surguja (Range) IGP Ratan Lal Dangi, Bilaspur SP Prashant Agrawal and Bilaspur Zonal SP Archana Jha are its members, a press release said.

A 2002 batch IPS officer, Rahul Sharma (37) shot himself to death with his service revolver in the officers' mess in Bilaspur in March 2012.

In a suicide note, Sharma blamed his senior IPS officer and a High Court judge for his death.

The erstwhile BJP government recommended a CBI probe but nothing came out in the investigation.
