The Chhattisgarh Government has launched extensive screening at railway stations, bus stands and airports after realising that the return of migrants from neighbouring States is a key reason behind a serious surge in Covid-19 cases.
An official statement said on Monday that the government has made testing for Covid-19 mandatory for everyone coming to the state through airports, railway stations, bus stands and the inter-state borders.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday reviewed the current status of coronavirus infection and called for preventive measures as well as arrangements to treat patients in rural areas.
"Amid increasing Covid-19 caseload, passengers coming from outside are to be tested at airports, railway stations, bus stands and inter-state borders," he said.
"Tests are also to be done in rural areas as well where people are returning from outside the state," he stressed. Officials have been told to send infected migrants to isolation centres and hospitals.
The Government wants medical staff to be recruited on contract in all the affected districts immediately.
Special instructions have been given to stop black marketing in essential medicines.
