C'garh govt has dumped cold chain stores for vaccines: BJP

Published on:

The Chhattisgarh BJP on Sunday pulled up the Congress-led government for abandoning the cold-chain store scheme for vaccines and medicines of the previous BJP government when the state needs it the most.

BJP senior leader and former Minister Brijmohan Agrawal said in a statement that the government move betrayed its indifferent attitude.

The former BJP government had floated the scheme for construction of most modern cold-chain stores for keeping vaccines and medicines. Agrawal added the land allocation process was completed and the scheme was included in the budget.

But after the Congress government came to power, the scheme was put on the back-burner.

Agrawal said that had the state government taken the matter with seriousness, in this Covid-19 global pandemic, it would have helped keep the corona-vaccine and other medicines safe.

With a third trial of corona vaccine to be completed in January-February, the vaccine is expected to arrive which will require 1.5 lakh litres of cold-chain space for storage, said Agrawal.

Agrawal pointed out had work on the existing sanctioned scheme started, it would have been completed. The Central government had already sought from the state details of the existing cold-chain storage before December.
