Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said his government was committed to the development and progress of women and so had formulated women-centric policies.

He was addressing women who thronged his residence to celebrate the state's traditional festival Teeja-Pora Tihar.

Baghel, along with family members, offered prayers to an ox and a plough -- vital farm implements.

“As we do every year on Pora Tihar, we have invited our sisters to the Chief Minister House,” he said.

People visiting Chhattisgarh carry different perceptions about its women noticing their transformation, social awareness and self-reliance.

“If you observe the schemes run in the state, you will find that these have been formulated with women empowerment as the main objective,” Baghel said.

Chhattisgarh has transferred Rs 175,000 crore into the bank accounts of people through schemes like Kisan Nyay Yojana, Labour Welfare Scheme and Godhan NYAY Yojana.

On the occasion of Teeja, it is believed that it rains when women go to their parents’ homes. “You can see it has been raining well for the last two or three days. In the last five years, the people of Chhattisgarh have not faced any famine."

“We are consistently working towards ensuring financial prosperity for everyone. Today, women are not just managing their households but also taking the lead in various other important initiatives,” he said.
