C’garh to restart honorarium to MISA detainees: CM

Published on:

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on Wednesday that his government will take the lead in providing honorarium to those who were detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during the Emergency rule of 1975-77.

“When fighters of democracy were imprisoned, their families suffered as

they faced livelihood crises.

“Our government will give them justice. The previous government of Raman Singh had commenced giving honorarium to MISA detainees. We will improve upon it.”

Sai added that he shared their pain as his own father, Narhari Sai, was imprisoned under MISA for 19 months.

He was addressing a felicitation ceremony of the Loktantra Senani Sangh in Raipur. MP and Sangh President Kailash Soni was present.

Soni said: “The MISA prisoners are a source of inspiration and the guardians of democracy.”

At the event, MISA detainees and their family members from across the state shared their ordeals.

Under the MISA Act of 1971, the government had the power to detain any person without trial for up to two years. The act was repealed in 1977.
