Considering the wide range of benefits of organic farming, farmers of Chhattisgarh have actively started adapting the organic way of cultivation.
Besides using the vermicompost-super compost made from cow dung in Gauthans, farmers are now using an organic insecticide called Brahmastra and a crop growth enhancer Jeevamrut in place of chemical pesticides.
The Chhattisgarh government is promoting organic farming. In view of the increasing cost of cultivation and shortages in supply of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, farmers in the state are becoming more and more inclined towards organic farming.
The easy availability of organic fertilizers and pesticides is proving helpful in controlling the input cost of farming.
Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, cow dung is procured in Gauthans for Rs. 2/kg and this is utilized to produce organic fertilizers.
Recently, procurement of cow urine has started. Women self-help groups use it to produce organic pesticides.
Since July 28, 53,231 liters of cow urine have been procured and Rs 2.13 lakh has been paid to the sellers by the Gauthan committees.
Insecticide Bramhastra and growth booster Jeevamrut are prepared from cow urine.
Organic pesticides are being produced in Gauthans to ensure continuous supply of organic insecticides and growth boosters to the farmers.
