The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Motilal Vora, veteran leader of undivided Madhya Pradesh on the second day of the Winter Session after which the House was adjourned for the day.

Vora, who was Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh twice and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh once, passed away on Monday in New Delhi.

Deputy Speaker Manoj Singh Mandavi read out the obituary reference, recalling the services he rendered as MLA in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister and Union Minister and who held various posts in the Congress.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel described Vora as ‘Ajatashatru’ with indomitable dedication, diligence and loyalty towards the leadership.

Recalling his conversation with him on his birthday a day before he passed away, Baghel said no one thought he would depart so soon as he had recovered from Covid-19.

His simplicity and social nature remained with him till his last moment. He rose from the ground to hold different posts which no other leader has ever held for such a long period. It is an irreparable loss to the Congress, state and country, Baghel said.

Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said Vora was the identity of Chhattisgarh in New Delhi. From a normal family he rose to national level and worked in different capacities. He was a father figure for all across various political affiliations and earned due respect.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravindra Choubey, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Health and Family Welfare Minister T.S. Singh Deo, Dhanendra Sahu and Satyanarayan Sharma recalled their close association with him.

They said he was a school of learning on how to lead a public life. He could be seen working late at night without getting tired.

Former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said he was the most popular leader among all parties. He was like a guardian and a father figure for all.

Dharamjeet Singh cited various incidents and said his honesty, integrity and dedication were his assets.

Members observed a two-minute silence after which the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
