Chhattisgarh State Assembly building and its premises are being spruced up to welcome the newly elected Members of Legislative Assembly.

State Assembly Secretary Chandrashekhar Gangrade said, “All the arrangements have been put in place. The session for holding Assembly will be notified only after the Chief Minister takes oath of office.

Based on the direction of Chief Minister on dates to hold the Assembly session, the notification of session will be issued and then all the newly elected members will be administered oath in a ceremony, he said.

As per officials, generally a two-day session for administering oath to the newly elected members of Legislative Assembly is held. With the oath ceremony scheduled on Monday evening for the Chief Minister and the formation of Cabinet will take a week; so the session is expected on December 26 and 27.

The Assembly is then expected to be called for Budget session in the month of February and March. With Lok Sabha Election scheduled in year 2019, most likely in month of May, the election model code of conduct may be imposed by April. So, the State Assembly budget session can be convened early also.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the new Government to be formed by the Congress party, will have to make budgetary provisions for allocation for the paddy bonus of two years and waiver of loans announced for the State’s farmers. It will have to also make provisions for reducing the power tariff including for new schemes, if launched, keeping an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Notably, as per normal administrative process, all the departments have already prepared the draft budget proposal after holding discussions. The draft is likely to be tabled before the new Chief Minister, who will then finalise the draft and then he will take the decision, either to table supplementary budget or the normal budget.
