The Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) would be installing a rain water harvesting system at the administrative building at Dallirajhara mines as a move to conserve maximum amount of rain water.

Apart from water conservation measures , the BSP had been taking massive energy conservation measures at the BSP plant.

The company in August this year won the first prize in the category of Integrated Steel Plants under Iron & Steel Sector, for its performance in the year 2014-15, in the first- ever State level Energy Efficiency and Innovation Awards – 2015, instituted by Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA).

CREDA has instituted this award to encourage awareness about the efficient use, management and conservation of energy and to recognise special efforts made by Units in the field during the year 2014-15 located in the State of Chhattisgarh.

The award has been instituted in collaboration with National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur and The New Management Association of Chhattisgarh.

The awards have been instituted for energy efficiency in the sectors of Cement Industries, Iron & Steel Industries, Thermal Power Plants, Urban local bodies, Hotels & Hospitals, and Shopping Malls.

The awards are judged primarily on the basis of year on year (YOY) improvement in energy performance achieved by a participating unit in a particular category and secondarily, on the basis of innovative measures undertaken annually by the participating unit to bring about energy efficiency in its operations and maintenance practices.

The Bhilai Steel Plant has won the award for reduction in its specific energy consumption by around 0.75% in 2014-15 over 2013-14 and also for achieving savings in thermal energy consumption and electrical  energy consumption, of 3.56% and 1.01% YOY respectively, in 2014-15.
