Thanks to efforts put in by the Town Electrical Engineering Section of Bhilai Steel Plant’s Town Services Department, the steel city’s Central Avenue and some other main roads would soon be illuminated with lED lights, officials said.
Work for installation of 400 lED lights in place of the sodium vapour lights presently being used along Central Avenue and on the road from Equipment Chowk to the Plant’s Main Gate is underway, they added.
Once these are installed, night-driving along these main roads would become safer and easier for citizens of the township, as illumination would increase from the average of 6 lux to 18 lux, which is ideal for traffic speed of 60 kmph.
Another benefit accruing from installation of lED lights would be the saving in electricity consumption. By using lED lights of 120 watts in place of the 315 watt lights presently in use, the Plant would be realizing substantial saving in energy costs to the tune of 68 per cent, officials informed.
The TEED team led by RK Rana, DGM (TEED) has accomplished this task on time without making any changes in the lighting arrangements. AK Chouhan, Senior Manager (TEED) has coordinated the task.
The efforts made by TSD for lED illumination is in line with Central Government’s directives for energy savings.
According to estimates, with the saving in electricity consumption and energy, the cost of installation of lED lights would be realized in a period of 8 months.
Besides the Central Avenue, lED lights are being installed along the Equipment Chowk to the Plant’s Main Gate and Rail Chowk to DPS Chowk stretches of main roads in the township.
