Remote controlled operation of 5 tonne Winch of Transformer Repair Shop-1 of Power Systems Department has been successfully commissioned at MSDS-1 at the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), a BSP Press release issued here on Tuesday stated. The job was carried out jointly by team of PSD and ETl led by Ravindra Kumar, AGM (PSD) and Arup Roy, AM (ETl) under the guidance of Hardial Singh,

DGM I/c (PSD) and support from PKBasu, DGM (PSD-1), it stated. Inaugurating the facility, Arun Bhandakkar, GM (Electrical) praised the efforts put by the team for successfully commissioning of the facility. This Winch is provided at MSDS-1 for to and fro movement of transformers between Transformer Repair Shop and MSDS-1 switchyard.

Earlier, this operation was carried out from Winch Motor Room which is 150 metres away from the switchyard. Conventional type of speed control system was used for the Winch. Slow and precise movement required for movement and positioning of transformers was very difficult with this arrangement. With the introduction of VVVF drive and remote control, it has now become possible for the operator to control movement of the transformer while standing close to the transformer.

The arrangement made was put to use during the replacement of 40.5MVA transformer-3T at MSDS-1. Removal and positioning of transformer was carried out safely and conveniently in optimum time. Present at the inauguration were Hardial Singh, DGM I/c (PSD), PK Basu, DGM (PSD-1), AP Pandey, DGM (ETl), senior officers and team members from PSD and ETl.
