People of this forested town are facing difficult situation for the last two days, thanks to frequent power cuts and choking of telephone lines. From the last night itself, landline and internet service of Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNl) has become ineffective in many areas of the city.
According to people, power supply company employees shut down the supply whenever there is possibility of a gale or a rain as if they are completely terrorised by rain/storm putting the common man into great difficulty. While the soaring temperature is making people feel uncomfortable during the day, frequent power cuts make the dark nights scary.
In Bastar division, for the last 2 days storm usually starts blowing during the evening hours followed by drizzle to light rains and at the same time power goes off in some or the other part of the city. For the last one week power dripping and choking of BSNl services have made the life miserable.
Though, intensity of neither storms nor rains is severe, the frequency of power cut is painful and as the monsoon season is just a few week ahead, situation is likely to worsen further.
However, according to electricity department officials, `22 crore work related to change of transformers and maintenance work of poles and cables are being carried out in the town under RAPD (RP) scheme which is likely to
complete within a month.
