A Border Security Force (BSF) Constable on Thursday committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.
The incident took place around 6.30 am at the BSF camp in Kamtera village, Kanker Superintendent of Police Shalabh Kumar Sinha said.
Ujjawal Nandi of the BSF’s 30th Battalion shot himself with an X-95 rifle at his barrack. Hearing the gunshot, his colleagues rushed there and found him lying dead, the official said.
Nandi was a resident of Nadia district in West Bengal.
No suicide note was found at the spot, Sinha said, adding that an investigation was on to ascertain the exact reason behind the extreme step.
The mortal remains will be taken to Nandi’s native place. The BSF is extensively deployed in Kanker for anti-Naxalite operations.
