A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper committed suicide on Wednesday at his unit camp in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, a Naxalite hub, officials said. Constable Swaraj P.N., belonging to BSF's 4th battalion, was found hanging from the ceiling of the Mess at the Tactical Headquarters in the Koyalibeda police station area around 6.30 am, Additional Superintendent of Police Gorakhnath Baghel said. After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and the body was sent for autopsy. According to preliminary information, the constable was unwell for some months. The exact reason behind his extreme step was yet to be ascertained, Baghel said. "Hailing from Wayanad in Kerala, Swaraj was posted in Koyalibeda since September last year. He went on leave in June this year and returned to duty in October," said the police officer. His family has been informed about the tragedy, he added. The BSF is extensively deployed in Kanker district, located around 150 km from Raipur, for anti-Maoist operations and has its frontier headquarters in Bhilai town of Durg district. In June, a BSF constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Pakhanjore area of Kanker.
