Congress leader and Raipur mayor Kiranmayee Nayak on Tuesday sought disqualification of senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Brijmohan Agrawal from the State Assembly and claimed that Agrawal had allegedly spent more money in the recently held Assembly elections violating the laws.

Nayak was defeated by Agrawal in Raipur-South constituency. Agrawal’s poll expenses before the election had touched Rs 17 lakh where as he organised processions, spent on Pendal, and fire crackers after the elections. The expenditure limit for the Assembly election was fixed at Rs 16 lakh, she told reporters here.

According to the rules, the money spent by a candidate between October 25 and November 19 and those on the date of counting and until the code of conduct was in force-all were supposed to be considered as poll expenses, she said. Nayak said she had kept a close eye on the expenditure of Agrawal during the campaigning and was gathering the proofs. It was Agrawal against whom highest numbers of complaints were lodged with the election commission, she claimed. The Election Commission has also been provided with evidences such as photographs, campaign materials, and other supportive documents.

According to the 47 complaints lodged against him, the total amount of money Agrawal had spend was estimated to about Rs 7.96 crore, she charged.  Accusing Agrawal of misguiding the Poll panel by furnishing false information she demanded his disqualification from the Assembly. Brijmohan Agrawal who had registered his sixth successive victory in Assembly polls-2013, has rubbished all charges levelled by Congress leader Nayak.
