With a view to facilitating the study of human anatomy to students, body of Advocate Gorelal Jha was handed over to the Jagdalpur Medical College Administration on Monday. late Gorelal Jha had expressed his wish to donate his body to the Medical College two years back and made it known to his family members as well, forbidding them from performing cremation and other religious rites after his death.
After Graduating in law from Raipur, Advocate Gorelal Jha was practising in the city court from 1952. He was also among the important leaders of Communist Party of India. Advocate Jha was ailing for the last sometime and breathed his last late Sunday evening.
According to his son, Congress leader Prabhat Jha, Advocate Jha remained always concerned that though the State Government had opened the medical college no dead body was available here for the study of students and had pledged to donate his body after death. On Monday after making the pledge of his father known to the Medical College Administration, body was formally handed over to them making it the first real body donation to the Jagdalpur Medical College at the local level. Notably, hundreds of people fill the form pledging for either body or eye donation but they forgo convincing their relatives or their kin avoid donating the body under the influence of Hindu traditions.
